Warning over Radio 1 Big Weekend ticket scam

There are warnings over a fake Radio 1 Facebook page which encourages users to “like, share and comment” on photos.

It claims those who do will have a “chance to win a pair of tickets to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Exeter 2016”.

Thousands have liked the page titled “BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend 2016 Exeter Tickets”, but it turns out it’s fake.

Radio 1 confirmed this, saying the only place to get tickets is from them.

One photo of Chris Martin and Ellie Goulding has been shared more than 14,000 times, and got more than 10,000 likes.

Scams like this are often used to build up a huge amount of interest in a page, before it is sold to a business looking to quickly advertise to a large audience.

Coldplay, Bring Me The Horizon and Chase & Status are the first three acts announced for the two-day event, which will take place on 28 and 29 May.

In a statement Radio 1 said: “The only place to get tickets to Radio 1’s Big Weekend is from Radio 1.

“Ticketing details will be announced on March 21st. All information about Radio 1’s Big Weekend is available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1”
